We thought you might like a peek behind the scenes of last Friday’s MA Fine Art exhibition which was a culmination of 3 days worth of curatorial workshops at Gasworks. The workshops were a great success, giving students the chance to work with curators Jamie Stevens, Naomi Pearce and Robert Leckie alongside Course Leader Rebecca Fortnum.
Former Camberwell MA Printmaking student Ralph Overill has been announced as the winning artist at the annual Clifford Chance Printmaking Exhibition. As a result, Ralph’s work has now been acquired for the Clifford Chance art collection. Ralph’s piece is entitled ’Land Site’ and comprises of an arrangement of 16 etchings printed onto thin Chinese paper and hung with pins. Congratulations Ralph!
Recent MA Fine Art graduate, Otherllo D’Souza-Hartley, exhibits ‘Masculinity’ at the Underground Gallery. The project explores notions and vulnerability of masculinity in present day. The show has been extended until 15 October.
Who or what is Peles Empire?
Peles Empire is a work by Katharina Stöver and Barbara Wolff founded 2005. The project borrows its name from the Romanian castle Peles, which copies different architectural styles of past centuries. Peles Empire reproduces rooms from this castle in simple colour or black and white photocopies and merges it with the rooms it inhabits. Stöver and Wolff invite other artists to exhibit within these spaces.
Why are we writing about them?
The main reason is the fact that Peles Empire have curated the current show at Camberwell Space – 3D 2D 3D 2D, but we should also mention they have been selected for the 2011 Bloomberg New Contemporaries and have been commissioned as part of this years’ Frieze Projects.
If you haven’t already seen the 3D 2D 3D 2D show at Camberwell Space there will be a special viewing on Tuesday 4 October, 17.30 – 20.00. Show continues until 4 November.

As part of its second anniversary celebrations, the Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health Nucleus (BRC Nucleus) is exhibiting the work of Camberwell student Murray Anderson, who won the competition held among students at Camberwell College of Arts.
“We chose Murray’s work as for its visual exploration of psychology, drawing together the beauty of art and complexities of the human mind. We hope that this collaborative competition with Camberwell Art College will run for many years to come.” Professor Matthew Hotopf, Director of BRC Nucleus.
Winning artist Murray Anderson said, “”The award has provided a unique experience and allowed me to consider the interaction between science and art and the practicalities of making public work.”
The exhibition will be on display at the BRC Nucleus throughout the year.

Venue: Art Work Space, Lower Ground, The Hempel Hotel, 31-35 Craven Hill Gardens, London W2 3EA
Descent of Life is the debut solo exhibition by Katie Brookes.
Katie is a recent graduate of the BA Illustration course at Camberwell College of Arts. The show features a new series of vast pen and ink drawings, which take their inspiration from Flemish Renaissance artists, notably Pieter Brueghel.
The drawings are a response to seemingly small details and stories, which have caught the attention of the artist. Katie takes these details and creates work that contains expansive meaning and symbolism. Within the landscape of the images there are multiple narratives that compose a scatterlogical discourse on the meanings of existentialism.
