Camberwell MA Fine Art – leading the way with contemporary curation!

We thought you might like a peek behind the scenes of last Friday’s MA Fine Art exhibition which was a culmination of 3 days worth of  curatorial workshops at Gasworks.  The workshops were a great success, giving students the chance to work with curators Jamie Stevens, Naomi Pearce and Robert Leckie alongside Course Leader Rebecca Fortnum.

MA Fine Arts student wins competition to exhibit at the BRC Nucleus

As part of its second anniversary celebrations, the Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health Nucleus (BRC Nucleus) is exhibiting the work of Camberwell student Murray Anderson, who won the competition held among students at Camberwell College of Arts.

“We chose Murray’s work as for its visual exploration of psychology, drawing together the beauty of art and complexities of the human mind. We hope that this collaborative competition with Camberwell Art College will run for many years to come.” Professor Matthew Hotopf, Director of BRC Nucleus.

Winning artist Murray Anderson said, “”The award has provided a unique experience and allowed me to consider the interaction between science and art and the practicalities of making public work.”

The exhibition will be on display at the BRC Nucleus throughout the year.

Say the Word

tablestood

There is a nice little write up over on the Eye Magazine blog about the Design:Key Ideas – Word event that took place last week at Camberwell College of Arts. The event was organised in co-operation with Eye Magazine and guests included Anthony Burrill, Fraser Muggeridge, Marcus Leis Allion and John L Walters.

Sounds like the day was both thought provoking and productive from start to finish, what with Derek Yates (Course Director – FdA Design Practice + FdA Illustration for Sequence and Interaction) kicking the day off with the provocative statement that ‘art school thinking confuses freedom with creativity’, through to the workshop in the afternoon, of which the outcome will form the content of a book that will be published as a giveaway at the Camberwell degree show.

Camberwell BA Illustration alumnus Andrew Clark will be taking part in the Fax Ex-Machina exhibition at KK Outlet.

Private View and Live Drawing: Thursday 4 March, 17.00 – 21.00

Open: 5 – 26 March 2010

Venue: KK Outlet, 42 Hoxton Square, London N1 6PB

Curated by Autista and KK Outlet, Fax Ex-Machina is a one off live art exchange between Brazilian and UK artists taking place simultaneously in KK Outlet, London and POP Gallery Sao Paulo.

Brazilian artists Ramon Martins, Eduardo Recife (Misprinted Type), Elisa Sassi and Carlos Dias will fax their original artwork from Brazil straight to the walls of KK Outlet whilst UK based artists Andrew Clark , Billie Jean, Mcbess and Jimmy Turrell will be drawing live at KK Outlet and transmitting their pieces to POP Gallery, Sao Paulo.

High taxes and blindsided customs laws make it impractical to import and export art in and out of Brazil. Using the lo-fi means of fax machines we aim to avoid these extortionate charges and showcase young talent in and outside of Brazil.

An additional fax machine will be placed in the window of KK Outlet. KK Outlet are inviting anyone from around the globe to fax art work, the best pieces will be included in the show. All submissions to be sent to the following number from Thursday 4 March  +44 (0)20 7739 0396.
