Beijing Crafts Delegation Visit

The University of the Arts London (UAL) hosted a delegation of 27 master craftsmen and 6 directors of cultural institutions from Beijing from 20-23 April 2010.

Karen Richmond Course Director of BA 3D Design at Camberwell College of Arts co-ordinated the 4 day programme, which included  presentations from Will Bridge – Deputy Rector of the University of the Arts London, Brent Holder – UAL Enterprise Office, Amanda Bright – Associate Dean School of Graphic and Industrial Design CSM. The programme involved contributions in the form of presentations from the British Council, The Crafts Council, The Design Museum, Contemporary Applied Arts and the V&A.

The visit was initiated by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy, the Information Technology Urban Industry Department and the Beijing Arts and Crafts Association.

The aim of the visit was for the delegates to understand how traditional crafts in the UK have formed a relationship with the contemporary market place.
